Our ‘Addiction and Recovery’ group focuses on a wide array of addiction and recovery-related topics, including the bio-psychosocial model of addiction, managing cravings, developing coping skills that will help to prevent relapse, and challenging distorted beliefs about self. This group also builds on the skills previously gained from having been in a residential setting. Because we at Willow Place for Women offer outpatient treatment, the majority of our clients are coming directly from an inpatient treatment facility. Our program offers many of the same components of inpatient care, but allows women a greater level of personal freedom. We teach our clients to productively manage this newfound freedom while remaining accountable and maintaining integrity. Relapse prevention is a major focus of this group. We teach women to utilize the coping skills they learn in real-life situations. One of the main benefits of outpatient treatment is the fact that women will be able to go out and experience real-world situations and circumstances, then return to the safety of the therapeutic group setting to process said experiences, receiving peer support and professional feedback.
Addiction and Recovery Focus Group at Willow Place
This specific focus group is also appropriate and highly beneficial for any woman who is attending treatment for the first time. The group atmosphere is a crucial component of early recovery as well as the maintenance of fulfilled, long-term sobriety. Developing sober support is integral to the recovery process, and attending 12-step meetings is both encouraged and reinforced. The format of the Addiction and Recovery group helps familiarize women with the group setting that will prove to be so valuable down the road.
