The Willow Place for Women offers eating disorder support groups, or meal support. With these groups, clients get an opportunity to connect with their emotional and physical hunger and to guide themselves, with the support of their peers, away from negative and detrimental food rituals and behaviors. Clients are asked to use a 1-10 hunger continuum scale before each meal begins, and set their intentions for each meal amidst a group of like-minded female peers. All mealtime groups are led by a professional and experienced clinician and dietitian. Clients participate in a check-in and discuss any exceptional triggers that may have occurred before sitting down to their meal. Following the meal, clients participate in a post-meal check-in to express negative thoughts or accomplishments, or to ask for additional support.
Eating Disorder Support Groups at Willow Place for Women
This group will also expose women to thorough nutrition education, exposing any false dietary beliefs and instilling women with valuable information regarding nutrition and healthy eating habits. Basic concepts taught include balance, moderation, and variety as well as removing the labels of good and bad from foods. Clients will be educated on how their bodies truly use needed calories and nutrients, as well as eating disordered induced metabolic shifts and a non-diet approach to healthfulness. We believe that ‘dieting’ can be extremely harmful, and frequently has adverse effects – therefore, we teach women to nourish and care for their physical bodies without illogical restrictions or limitations.
