Spiritual: This type of care is one that most people don’t think of when they contemplate these efforts. But, it’s vital to the growth and development needed during recovery. Basically, it involves digging deep inside to address the darkness that led to the development of mental health issues. And, letting go of the control in your life so that healing can commence as you’re guided by a higher power. Certainly, spirituality can be different from person to person. And, doesn’t necessarily have to require to be involved with any religion. It can be paying or even practicing mindfulness techniques.

Tips for Practicing This in Recovery

Now that you understand why caring for the self is important for recovery, you’ll need to know a few ways to practice self care. Some of the ways you can include this type of care into your daily routine include:

  • Eating healthy foods daily and not going hungry
  • Going to sleep early and waking up early
  • Finding hobbies and passions
  • Expressing your feelings with a person you trust
  • Remembering to love yourself
  • Surround yourself with the people you love
  • Write in a journal, meditate, and/or pray
  • Don’t skip your support group meetings
  • Get outside when you’re starting to feel blue
